A bar that dims when the trains slow down
At Moynihan Train Hall’s food hall, the lighting moves from bright and busy by day to softly dimmed after dark.
Moynihan Train Hall’s food hall, with its fast-food counters and a bar, is lit by warm LED sources, and the lighting changes through the day: bright and energetic in the daytime, softly dimmed after dark1.
At the centre, the bar sits under a light well that brings daylight into the hall. RLM fixtures on custom arms add a decorative industrial touch and pick out the bar’s structure1.
From the project
The studio credits Vornado Realty Trust and QTL alongside Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design, and lists a LIT Awards honourable mention for the project1.
For travellers, the effect is practical as much as atmospheric: a place that reads clearly when you are in a hurry, and softens when you are not.
