An office whose light follows the day

At R/GA’s New York offices, the ceiling light starts at 2700K in the morning, cools to 4000K at noon and warms again by evening.

R/GA wanted its workspace to show off its use of technology, so Tillotson designed indirect lighting that tracks the shifts of daylight through the day1. Every coffer in the waffle-slab ceiling is uplit with a retrofit PAR38 LED lamp1.

A DMX control system runs the lamps through a circadian rhythm: 2700K in the morning, shifting to 4000K at noon and warming again in the evening1.

From the project

The open office is punctuated by glass meeting-room ‘huddles’, lit from above by linear LEDs that backlight their polycarbonate walls; those fittings are tuned to match the colour temperature of the ceiling1.

The page lists press coverage crediting the offices to Foster + Partners with Tillotson Design Associates1.
