Five hundred chandeliers under the trees

At Tavern on the Green, Focus Lighting hung 500 handmade crystal chandeliers over the courtyard and kept the rest simple.

The lighting at the historic Tavern on the Green was designed to be more authentic and classic, relying less on layers of technique and flourish1. Its centrepiece is a canopy of 500 handmade crystal chandeliers over the courtyard, a nod to the ‘nature wrapped in light’ feeling the restaurant made popular more than 100 years ago1.

The architects credited are Richard H. Lewis and John Lee Beatty; the photographs are by Ryan Fischer1.

From the project

Focus Lighting’s scope here covered the interior, the exterior and the landscape1. The photographs show how those three meet in the courtyard: warm points overhead, warm tables below, and the trees in between left mostly to the dark.
