The city’s front door gets its chandeliers back
A New York studio has been working on the lighting of Union Station’s Great Hall since 2015, with the City of Toronto and Parks Canada.
If a house has a front door, so does a city, and in Toronto it is the Great Hall of Union Station. Domingo Gonzalez Associates, a New York lighting studio, says it has provided lighting design and consultation for the restoration of the hall since 2015, working with the City of Toronto and Parks Canada1.
The studio’s brief, as it describes it, included evaluating the historic conditions and designing a family of custom chandeliers, through to the tender documents1. The images it publishes are drawings rather than photographs, so that is what we show: a rendering of the hall, and a section through it.
From the project
DGA describes itself as a studio with more than 30 years of practice, working on transportation, historic preservation, education, corporate, hospitality, healthcare and infrastructure projects2. In this month’s New York edition, the same studio lights the paths of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
We would rather show the finished hall than drawings. When a cleared photograph of the restored Great Hall is available, it will replace these.
