A path light over flagstone steps lights the treads and one boulder. The planting behind stays in shadow.

This is one of the Kichler frames that looks like a real photograph rather than a rendering. The two path lights have wide shades that throw light down onto the treads, so neither shines into the eyes of someone climbing the steps. Kichler describes path and hardscape lights as a way to light paths and entryways1.
